"William Steiger’s paintings allow his imagination and our collective memory to merge to shape “reality.” Steiger’s subjects are bridges, towering structures, and flying machines from the first half of the 20th century. He often paints these magnificent constructions that once epitomized progress and technology, as well as landscapes from an aerial perspective."
- Hitomi Iwasaki, Associate Curator Queens Museum of Art, May 2002

Operating in a style that can be described as hard-edged, flat and objective, American artist William Steiger has carved an important space as a painter of items from a collective library of visual recognition. Abstracted from their human environment, Steiger’s artwork is geometrically and socially engaging; like an architectural blueprint where a viewer can project their own narrative onto the image, evoking a moment of pause in an era of rapid modernization.

William Steiger received his M.F.A in painting from Yale University in 1989. His works have been shown extensively in the United States, Europe and Asia, including recent solo exhibitions in New York and Tokyo. His work is included in numerous private and public collections such as American University, Bank of America and the International Collage Center.
