Meg Hitchcock

BIOGRAPHY

Meg Hitchcock Biography

Meg Hitchcock
is a multi-media artist living and working in the Brooklyn, NY. She received her BFA in fine painting from the San Francisco Art Institute. She also had the opportunity to study classical painting in Florence, Italy.

Hitchcock's lifelong affinity for the intersectionality of religion, literature, and psychology are consummate in her utilization of the materiality of myriad scriptures. Works incorporate letters clipped from the pages of such scriptures as the Bible or Quran to then reassemble the disconnected individual letters into a novel synthetic prayer and or song. Hitchcock believes this practice is meant to highlight the shared humanity that illuminates these sacred tomes. The religions and belief systems offer culturally specific expressions of profound sentiments and passions demonstrative of the essence of the human condition.

Hitchcock's work has been shown in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, London, and Berlin, and reviewed in Art in America, ArtCritical, The New Criterion, Huffington Post, Hyperallergic, and The Daily Beast. Her work was included in "State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now" at Crystal Bridges Museum in Arkansas.
